Maui Elections 2026

The Race

Maui County elections 2026

Mayor and nine County Council residency seats are on the ballot. Council members live in the area they represent; every Maui County voter still votes countywide in each race.

How the top-two primary works

  1. Step 1

    Nonpartisan ballot

All candidates appear together. Party labels do not structure the race.

  2. Step 2

    Top two always advance

The two highest vote-getters in the August 8 First Special Election (held with the primary) move to November. Maui schedules that second round unconditionally; there is no majority / win-outright exception.

  3. Step 3

    Second Special Election

Voters choose between the finalists on November 3, 2026 (concurrent with the general election).
